For AOSP ROM of the week, you will certainly want to check out the latest AOKP MR1 Milestone 1 ROM.

The latest “MR1 Milestone 1” is the first, ever “stable” version put out by the AOKP Team and official versions are available for those of you with AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, US Cellular, or GT-i9300 Galaxy S3.

If you’ve been put off by the fact that there was no stable Android 4.2.2 AOKP yet, now is the time to reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery and install the latest AOKP ROM.

Of course, this ROM isn’t for anyone/everyone but for those of you who want to experience pure Android or AOSP (What is AOSP?), you will lose all Samsung features like multi-window, Smart Stay, etc…etc…

Im coming from a tweaked rom (infamous). ive installed numerous roms before but had an issue restoring my back up after installing an AOKP rom. I don’t know what this happened before. I’m currently updated on CWM. will I be able to retore backup ?

  6. Ryan says:

Hey Max, In your opinion, what is the best rom out there for sgs3 at&t. I have liquid smooth and it was good, but now i am having nothing but problems with freezing and rebooting on a lot of different things. I am new to this and I lost everything last time i did a full wipe, so I have been sticking to liquid, but I think I am ready for a change. I have ROM toolbox pro, goomanager, Android tuner, titanium backup, that i really don’t know how to use, last time I tried changing roms, I ended up with 10 O subfolders and created a backup but couldnt restore. Any help would be appreciated.

    • Max says:

Try updating CWM recovery first with ROM Manager to the latest version as the newest version supports Android 4.2.2’s new multi-user directory system. You should be able to restore you backup after that.

      • Ryan says:

Thanks Max, I am going to try this one, you think its the best one out there now? 4.2.2

        • Ryan says:

          whats your email for paypal?

          • Nash-one says:

i had the same issue before. I just tried and as u see my earlier post i got that MD5 mismatch error..like always. if u havent done it yet be aware

            • Dvoraak says:

For what it’s worth I was able to advanced restore my nandroid data out of Task’s AOKP to this milestone without difficulty.
A hint for any who don’t know this yet….. AOSP to AOSP ROM backups will generally transfer. TW to TW ROM backups will too. AOSP to TW or TW to AOSP = bad idea. I’m guessing the version of JB matters as well since I’ve never gotten it to work right going from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 or from 4.1.1. to 4.1.2.

        • Terry Shekalo says:

          FYI for Canadian Bell I747M’s.
Bell TV works on this rom. I have tried other custom roms for the last 6 months and I have found that JellyBam is the only rom where Bell Mobile TV works.
Battery life is great, stable etc but the only issue I have is the screen flickering from time to time but after reboot, no flickering for a while.
          Flickering started with
          Not a deal breaker.
Best rom for the S3’s I747M out there and getting better all the time.

  7. uriel says:

Hey Max, how do i install play store i don’t have it. Please help 😀

    • Dvoraak says:

You need to flash gapps. I don’t see a link on this page but I know Max has links on some of the other ROM review pages. Make sure the version of gapps you get matches the ROM you’re going to flash. In this case you’d need the latest gapps for JB 4.2.2.

  8. Ray says:

Is anyone else having problems with this ROM rebooting their phone for no apparent reason? I’ve had the Wicked ROM installed since it came out, but wanted to try the 4.2.2 stable AOPK and it is great, except that my phone reboots itself every now and then. Like just now while writing this… it’s sitting on my desk doing nothing and buzz… reboot.

    • Dvoraak says:

Installed about 24 hours ago and I’ve had 2 random reboots in that time. To me, there are worse issues to have with a ROM so it’s not a deal breaker but I’m going to flash the KT kernel today and give it a spin.

      • Dvoraak says:

        OOPS!!!!

The 3.4 version of KT caused a black screen and death at boot. AOKP milestone isn’t updated for it. Beware.

        • kyle says:

Hey, very similar problem. Just came from the other AOKP milestone with very little problems. This one seems to be acting up with reboots every once in a while and now it just shuts off. Mine is a Galaxy S3 AT&T SGH-i747. I really like it and want to keep it!!! Everything else is very stable and fast. no problems.

    • Sandro says:

Mine was rebooting itself about once every 45 seconds at one point. I believe that is the very definition of Unstable. This was after an Unroot back to stock using Odin as per Max’s tutorial.

  9. Jarim says:

Annyeong, Max! This is the only ROM that has been perfectly stable on my t-999. JellyBAM had so many bugs and Synergy wasn’t stable for me, either. This ROM has all the features I need and I love how it installed bare bones with absolutely no apps – I will never have any I don’t want. Thank for the update/review and THANKS AOKP developers! Truly flawless! ^_~

  10. Ryan says:

I like this rom but am wanting to try the new synergy rom, would it be okay to go from this to synergy?

  11. rumein says:

Hey Max! Is there anyway for me to get that widget jellybam had on the lock screen with the clock and weather?

  12. rumein says:

Anyone having issue while playing music and getting notifications?

  13. JC914 says:

    Hi Max,
Thanks for great instructions and videos!

I ran into a problem after rooting my T-Mobile S3. I downloaded the “AOKP MR1 Milestone 1 for Galaxy S3 T-mobile SGH-T999,” then proceeded to install this ROM. I then got the “Status 7 Error” then did your fix.

After that, i tried to install the zip again and now I get this:

    Finding update package…
    Opening update package…
    Installing update…
    Installation aborted.

Any recommendations? Should I try another ROM? Thanks in advance.

  14. fred leff says:

    Max,
not very good, no google now even from the store lots of things not working went back to my stabel jellywiz!
    stable!!!!

I’m having WiFi connection problems o my T999

  16. James says:

Running this rom on my i747m on Bell in Canada.

I had the previous AOKP rom a few posts down from this one. It was unstable as hell, apps would quit all the time, I’d lose my keyboard, my poweramp would die, the rom would sometimes just refuse to show anything on the screen even though the buttons were lit up, and occassionally it would reboot itself. Oh yeah, and worst of all, sometimes it would REALLY screw up my screen and cause it to display all kinds of weird glitchy green and purple lines all over the screen.

This rom so far has been very stable. It is fast, intuitive, and just plain sexy. Big thumbs up, I look forward to any new releases.

  17. James says:

Just one question, when I have my data enabled, it says 3g – is there a way to get it to display my LTE?

    • Dvoraak says:

      Yes.

      Settings / Wireless & Networks – More… / Mobile Networks / Network Mode –set this to LTE/GSM/WCDMA
Then on the same Mobile Networks screen open Access Point Names and set to ATT LTE pta.

      That should work. Good luck.

  18. Mike says:

The only thing that was keeping my from this rom was the lack of NFC. Is that still an issue? Can anyone confirm NFC is working fine for VZW?

  19. Curb-Crete says:

Thanks Max. Every week I look forward to your email. Really like this Rom coming from liquid smooth, lot of glitches on the last few updates on liquid. Nice to have my phone running great again. No hiccups so far on this one, but wanting to try synergy also?

  20. Mahesh S Nair says:

i am using this rom right now o n my GT I9300, everything except camera is fine.. the camera is in no way a comparison to the samsung camera app that came with the GS3… please do something about it..it feels like am using a 4Mp camera..

  21. geoff says:

I love this ROM on my att S3, but it keeps randomly rebooting. Fix that and I’m good

    • Curb-Crete says:

I have had this for 3 days now and has not rebooted at all, knock on wood.

    • Ray says:

I had the same issue, went back to my old Wicked 4.1.1 ROM, but I really liked the look and feel of this AOKP ROM better, so just went back… hopefully a fresh install will alleviate the problem.

  22. Dee says:

Hi Max, installed the rom fine and have gapps installed as well. I’m sorry if this has already been addressed but this build (6) has been randomly restarting my Verizon GS3. AOKP website confirms random restarts for build 4 so I figured this issue was fixed or maybe its just me. No errors of any kind before, during or after the install with the exception of the random restarts; any ideas?

  23. Łukasz says:

I have a question about the language. I have international version of galaxy s3 and i want to install roms but i want to know: are some other languages in roms?… i want polish language.. or there’s only english or somthing?

  24. fred leff says:

Max: for the second time, and becaue i have received 16 emails from my students that i have referred your site to learn about roms, why do we have to go and download the mp4 of your video instead of what it used to do which was just plain hit the trinangel and the video play??? PLease answer so i can get back thru to my students. One of them said they emailed you but you didn’t get back to them
    thanks
    fred

    • james says:

Hey Fred, you don’t have to download the videos. Just below the video box he has a line that says to click “here” to watch on another one of his websites or click “here” to watch it on youtube. Either of those link will work without any downloading necessary.

  25. fred leff says:

PS Max, do you have a video of how to load a boot animation, my student just ran the zip with no luck, im really not rr

  26. gilad says:

Hello, I wanted to know if this rom is also suitable to i9305?

  27. Gabriel says:

I have flash this rom before this M1 and every time i did i could only install like 2 apps then it would tell me that i didn’t have enough space on my phone when i had more then 5gigs left on my phone. is this now fixed? i really like the feel of the rom but the whole memory issue is what made me go back to stock. I have a tmobile s3 if that helps any.

  28. jim says:

At least 5 reboots a day on verizon gs3. Installed after a fresh data wipe. Tear 🙁

    • Ray says:

Same with me, but on a T-Mobile – I even reinstalled and still had the same issue. I installed the latest JellyBam a few days ago and haven’t had any issues… (knock on wood)

  29. Andretti Machiavelli says:

Im experiencing trouble with camera on every aosp rom i’ve tried so far on my i9300. It crashes very very often while attempting to take a picture with flash. Has anyone else had this problem?

    • Mahesh S Nair says:

yes am facing the same problem..camera cashes with flash turned ON..and i dnt think my battery life is much good either..

  31. James says:

I tried a few fresh downloads and installs with the same results. anyone recommend another aosp rom?

  32. Guilherme says:

Hey Max! Love your reviews.. simple and to the point!

I have a i9300 and I really like this ROM, has everything i need except 2 things.
My battery is going out pretty quickly and i prefer to have a more durable day life.
I searched your older vids on MR1 and I noticed you used an app called Performance for the OC but i didnt get it in this ROM flash..
So, could I install another Kernel that would get me some more hours of battery life?
Or do you have another suggestion that I can follow?

    Thanks!!!!

  33. skeery2605 says:

  35. cody bowden says:

hey Max, I really like this rom. are there any aokp roms that support LTE? aokp mr1 #6 only shows 4g not LTE, but I know that sometimes means nothing. and what about note 2 camera and gallery mod for s3 running aokp?

  36. Mark W says:

  45. Dave says:

Hey Max… Great videos! Thanks for all your work!

I installed the ROM, everything is great except for one major thing. I have no cell network. Service State ” Out of Service” / Mobile Network state “Disconnect” … Wifi, Bluetooth fine. It detects the mobile networks (Signal Strength 1441 dBm 520 asu) , but wont connect as if no signal.. IMEI is still good.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated…Please Help!

  46. Steven says:

I’m running milestone 2 and is great! Only issues I’ve had is I can’t set up the option to pay for apps using my T-Mobile account and the camera occasionally force closes. Neither of the are that big a deal really. I can still pay for apps with my card and the camera starts back up no problem.
