Gummy ROM Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Galaxy S3!

For this week’s Galaxy S3 ROM of the week, check out latest version of Gummy ROM, available for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Cricket, US Celluar, MetroPCS, and GT-i9300 Galaxy S3.

If you are looking for a good set of customization on top of latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, definitely you cannot go wrong with Gummy ROM.

Gummy ROM features all the customization you may have seen previously with Jelly Bean AOSP custom ROMs and best of all, it runs all of it smoothly integrated with overclocking support up to 1.836Ghz(stable).

My favorite features include some of the lockscreen customization, especially the double-tap flashlight as I find any kind of flashlight shortcut handy whenever I am in dark places.

Thanks a lot for the update! You’re doing a great job! Ups.
All awesome customisations aside, does everything work? Receiving calls well? Data connectivity? WiFi? BT? Camera?
Does it feature the new KitKat dialler?
    Any word on Battery life?
Would be nice if at least some of these things will be covered in your ROM reviews.

    • Max says:

Yes everything works, you get everything KitKat including dialer since it’s a KitKat ROM. Battery life should be excellent (if you don’t overclock).

    A dummy question : Is is working for a GT I9305 ?

    • Max says:

Sorry this isn’t for i9305, you need i9305-specific ROMs for that model.

      • sercour says:

        Thanks Max,
I’ll restart searching it. I still don’t trust what I have found.
If anyone has a good idea of the most stable and serious custom one for a GT I9305 ?
        Thanks everybody

I am running the m3 for d2att before the unification for all lte modles, and i must stay it is working 100% flawlessly, even though i see other people saying things aren’t working for certin people. but for me everything works 100%.

I never heard of gummy rom, just wondering how it stacks up to CM11

    g3 at&t

    • Max says:

gummy rom is based on cm11 so it should give u everything cm11 plus the customization.

I’ve been reading the latest stable OSE rom for the Verizon s3.

that rom has been pretty decent but I won’t miss it. I get daily force closes, tethering almost always crashes it flash videos in the native browser crash it pretty often too so definitely looking to upgrade
unfortunately, I pretty much need everything to work. GPS is key, texting is absolutely key, of course making and receiving phone calls is key. how’s this ROM in those regards? Any other that you would recommend highly for Verizon s3?

  7. G W says:

Very curious about how well 4.3Photosphere runs on d2att with this 4.4.2 Gummy ROM,Currently using Darthstalker bc it has a solid photosphere camera mod. Doing a lot of them lately and don’t really want to lose that option. I was on CM11 but gave up (for now) bc I couldn’t get photosphere to work consistently.

    • Max says:

      Yup just install Photosphere:

Make sure use Titanium Backup app to remove Gallery app then install.

      • GW says:

So I just flashed Gummy ROM. It took a few tries for some reason; but it is running quite nicely at this point. I installed the 4.3 New Camera apk after deleting the original gallery with TB. The gallery app works great (displaying my previous photospheres etc). Camera, however, does not start the photosphere when it is properly aligned with the first (white) dot.Previous photosphere camera had blue dots. I also got a notification about no SD card, but it stopped occurring after a reboot. I cleared cache in gallery and original camera. Froze original camera. Still no photosphere taking. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks!

      • GW says:

So I did a restore to an unofficial CM build of 4.4KK and ran that for a while. It had a couple things that weren’t quite right. Yesterday I flashed Gummy M2 and installed the new Google Camera app, everything is good so far!

  28. PJ Arts says:

Lots of compliments, and only one gripe with this great ROM:

Compliments: easy, glitch-free install/ fast, stable operation/ plays really nice with all my 3rd party apps & widgets/ lots of neat customization options/

Gripe: the telephone app has 3 issues that I find very annoying:

    1) When I go into Call History, and choose to clear the Call Log, it doesn’t do anything

    2) When a call comes in…even if the screen is on, I get the single lock-screen unlock ‘button’. I don’t know which way to swipe, in order to answer or ignore the call.

    3) The dial-pad screen is cluttered with information that is already available elsewhere in the same app:
    *Most recent callers
*Large icons for the first 4 names in my contact list

This results in a dial pad that is a lot smaller then it should be, and a confusing screen

Bottom Line: a great, stable ROM that needs some housekeeping and bug-patching on the phone app. Its a keeper!

Just curious how do I take a screen shot with this Rom ..everything else is flawless I used viper until this and it has so many features but I just can’t figure out my screen shot any help would be great

    • maykel says:

I think in Venom’s roms you use power + home to take a snap shot, but in this one, there is no shortcut, I think you need to enable it within the power settings, and once done that, you hold down power, and it will give you the option to restart, shutdown, airplane mode, and snap-shot.
      I hope this helps

      • junior says:

I found it for anyone else who may have been having the issue with screen shot it is a toggle switch that you have:
Settings>gummy interface>status bar /notification drawer>quick settings and from there you can add screen shot as a toggle switch

  37. junior says:

    I mean venom not viper

Absolutly the fastest 4.2.2 rom out there. Really shocking how smoothly my phone is working., it was worth the wait for this one. Good choice. I’ve been trying all the roms over at xda but none of them come close to this level of performance. This rom isn’t even listed over there. Keep up the good work.

  44. maykel says:

Hey Max, or anyone who knows the answer.
most of these roms do not come with Visual Voicemail app. including this one. How can I install that and let it work.
I tried saving the apk file from my stock rom, and installing it that way, but whenever I get a voicemail, it comes along with a few texts from random number, telling me to check my voicemail, while the voicemail does appear in the app, when I listen to it, after I stop it or it stops on its own, a loud static sound starts playing using the speaker, and the only way to turn it off is re-starting the phone.
Anyone has any ideas as to how to get the visual voicemail app?

    • Nick Goblirsch says:

LOL i know i’m pretty late to answer you but i found the best solution is to install Google Voice. Works like a charm.

  45. Dray says:

  46. Greg Rickson says:

I tried to download the 3 times and EVERY time it was corrupted.

  49. maykel says:

I’ve been using this room for about 4 days now. Definitely do not love it (Using Sprint Galaxy S3)
-The text app is not there, and it defaults to hangout to texts (not a fan)
-The phone screen seems to remain off from time to time, when I receive a new message, and it won’t turn on, until I restart.
-There isn’t a visual voicemail app. I downloaded one from a different site but when I get a voicemail, after I finish listening to it. It turns the speaker loud and only static and bad reception sounds come out, until the device is restarted
-Phone has restarted on its own about two times now.
-When using wifi facebook won’t connect for some odd reason. but other things will work
-I had slim bean before, and while it is also buggy, I think it’s still better than this one.

  71. Malcolm says:

Max, when will you be releasing KitKat touchwiz ROMs?

    • Max says:

TouchWiz is released by Samsung first, since they are not updating TouchWiz ROMs anymore, there will probably be no more TouchWiz but you can install AOSP roms such as this one.

  72. Manfredo says:

Whats up Max, i rooted and installed this ROM on my T mobile 999 galaxy and installed the 4.4.2 gapps but i get nothing but Google play and google.process.gapps FC.
Sorry if its a noob question but this is literally the first phone that has given me any sort of problems. I’ve followed your instruction down to every details and this device just does its own thing.

    • BJ says:

It’s based on your location settings, it picks up where you are and updates about twice a hour I think. Aside from that, the options are VERY limited if any as it doesn’t show up under widgets or apps 🙁

  76. JJ says:

Does this have free WiFi tether (hotspot) available?

  77. BJ says:

Has anyone gotten MHL to work with this ROM? I thought MHL relied on TouchWiz based ROMs to make it work. Haven’t been able to get it to work since I switched ROMs, Any option. Also lastly the phone will reboot occasionally when entering and exiting Google Voice to text or tring to bring up the keyboard, even with latest GApps, keyboard, etc.

  78. Ben says:

Hi, my phone is stuck on the gummy screen, sometimes it will just reboot and keep rebooting other times it just stays at that screen for 5-10 mins then nothing, then sometimes it attemps to load and says something fails and restarts…i then try to get to the reboot screen to install new rom or delete this one and it goes to a screen that says downloading do not turn off…. then nothing im not sure what to do…. any help plz…

    • demus g says:

I would do a factory wipe and then restore from Nandroid. Then at least your phone would be usable and then you can start afresh with the ROM install. What recovery are you using? You should also check the MD5 sum before installing a zip. I use MD5 checker app.

  79. nick says:

the settings crash when i try adding another “Google account” (really bad)

and this is still the shitty rom that doesn’t allow me to post videos “your device doesn’t support this” so still can’t try out vine again (if I wanted to)

  80. Nuno Matos says:

First of all great job in root review for galasy S3.

I have a problem with my galaxy S3 and asop roms (and gummy rom also), the problem is after some time my phone is in sleep when i turn it back on the wifi won’t turn back on no scanning only when i toggle airplane mode the wifi comes back on, do you know any fix for this problem? Could it be a kernel issue?

  81. lilcasino510 says:

Just tried this on my Sprint GS3 and it is stuck on the Gummy start-up screen. I can’t even get back to CWM when booting into recovery mode. I tried using ODIN to make sure CWM was on there but still won’t do anything but go to Gummy screen.

  82. Michael G. says:

Ok, I’m trying to run this on my Verizon GS3 with Safestrap because my phone has the 4.4.2 update (boo). I thought Gummy was a TW-based ROM, right? Will it work with Safestrap? I’ve flashed it into ROM Slot 1, and I tried it in ROM Slot 3 to see if that would work. No dice. The screen is dark. But something is working because when I press the menu button at the bottom, the phone vibrates. And when I hold the volume down, it flips to vibrate mode as well. I have to pop the battery and start in recovery mode and go back to my stock ROM. Any ideas?

  83. roncad says:

Hey Max, is this a pretty stable rom ? And is the free hotspot working in this rom ?
