C-ROM for Galaxy S3! [On The Go Mode]

For this week’s Galaxy S3 ROM of the week, check out C-ROM, available for most Galaxy S3 variants including AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Metro PCS, Cricket, US Cellular, C-Spire, GT-i9300, and GT-i9305.

Based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, C-ROM is an AOSP ROM (What is AOSP?) that includes really cool features like On The Go Mode, and a ton of customization.

On The Go Mode gives your phone transparency through your back camera when your turn it on so when you are walking on the street, you will be able to see what’s in front of your while walking.  This is an excellent feature that will definitely help out many of us who commute to work everyday.

You will find many customization including PIE Controls, Halo notifications, Appbar, Gesture Anywhere, OmniSwitch, Active Display, custom animations, and a whole lot more.

Overall, C-ROM has great performance, battery life, and everything you can think of is implemented into the ROM.  Definitely, C-ROM is one of the best KitKat ROMs for S3 “right now” so give it a go this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

Download C-ROM for Galaxy S3 (for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Metro PCS, Cricket, US Cellular, and C-Spire) Optional: if you want overclocking: Download Lean Kernel (Credits)

Download C-ROM for Galaxy S3 for GT-i9305

Download C-ROM for Galaxy S3 for GT-i9300

Download Gapps 4.4.2

NOTE: You need to update you CWM Recovery to v6.0.4.3 or higher OR also update your TWRP Recovery to v2.6.3.3 or higher.  You can use either ROM Manager app or Goo Manager app from Play Store to update.

To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)

If you want overclocking, flash Lean Kernel after installing ROM. (Not for GT-i9300/i9305!!!)

Q: I don’t have Play Store!!!
A: You forgot to install Gapps, reboot into CWM/TWRP recovery then install Gapps, voila!

Download Flash Player APK (if you want flash player use with Dolphin browser)

DownloadAndroid 4.3 PhotoSphere (if you want photosphere, but may force close so make a backup of your Gallery app using Titanium Backup app before installing!  )

If you want PIE Controls, see our LMT Pie Control guide.

If you want some awesome audio, check out Viper4Audio FX MOD, which you can install on this ROM to enhance your music 100%.

Will this rom work on a sph L710 from boost mobile?

    • Max says:

What is the ro.product.device name for boost mobile? Is that a CDMA or GSM phone?

      • Milton Espinoza says:

It’s a CDMA phone. What’s the ro.product device name? Where do I find that info?

      • Milton says:

I’ve successfully installed the C ROM on my Samsung Galaxy Sph L710 For boost mobile. Everything works nice except for the internet connection that works intermittently. Some times it shows as disconnected, even when the switch in the settings is turned on. Any idea how to fix this?

      • Milton says:

And also I’vt only seen the 3g network Working. Is there any setting in this ROM to update the profile or the PRL?

        • Max says:

It’s a known problem in general with KitKat AOSP ROMs for Sprint, the only carrier that has problem, until devs fix it, there’s no way to fix it I think or flash JellyBean AOSP ROMs for now.

  7. maykel says:

It can’t seem to find the file for gapps, it keeps giving me an error message when trying to download it

    • Max says:

Try clearing your browser cache and go here: http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/gapps/PA/pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20140503-signed.zip

  11. Des says:

I would like to install this rom but when I try to root my s3 knox is preventing me To root how do I get knox off my phone please help

    • Max says:

Knox doesn’t prevent root but if you use latest SuperSU zip file to root, SuperSU will let you remove KNOX easily.

      Use this: http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/tools/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip

  12. Tony says:

Is there an extremely basic set of gapps out there that will work with this ROM I don’t want all those Google apps and I definetly don’t want Google knowing all my business. I really just want the app store and stuff like you tube…am I asking too much?

    • yR says:

Well… Thts not a big problem my friend, u can turn auto backup off from settings easily
But if u still dun like to hv other google apps, u can simply delete it using titanium backup app, as ur phone is rooted, that won’t b a problem at all 😉

  13. Guilherme says:

The câmera inst working, when take a picture the câmera APP froze and i cant open the câmera again

    • turnbasenerd says:

Did you try Fix Permissions/ Wipe Cach/ Wipe Dalvic?

      • Guilherme says:

I didnt found fix permissions and its seens that after cem was remover, but i tried to install another google câmera and the FC remains… And after that i cannot open the camera again Including others camera apps

  14. Dorian says:

All installed perfectly on i9300… everything works well, except fast charge…

What kernal do I need to enable fast charge?

  15. SpeedFreak says:

Hi All, Max, thanks for this great ROM 🙂
2 issues encountered tho on my i9300:
    1. Fast Charge does not work
    2. Can only open the camera app once, when trying to change from camera to video, it freezes up. after taking the first pic, it freezes up then after force closing, message comes up saying cannot connect to camera app. A reboot sorts the issue out but the issue recurs after starting the camera app again. Any help/advise/fixes for this.

Besides the above 2 issues, this ROM is just Awesome 🙂

  16. shouri says:

How is the battery life? The discharge is quite significant compared to other roms. Which cpu governor mode r u guys using?

  17. fred says:

Hi max. Great site man, keep it going. I flashed this rom in the sch-i535 galaxy s3. It takes the rom all fine and it runs great on the phone until I flash the gapps. then the whole thing is way glitchy. ive noticed this on many roms. Do you know the cause of this. and is there a solution?? thanks again.

    • Max says:

      What is glitchy? The screen?

      • fred says:

Just seems to have alot of glitches on transitions from screen to screen or jumping around to apps. Also during a loading process. Only happens after I flash gapps tho. Ill try a different package I think.

  18. ahmed says:

everything running good, prefer this over the alternative, no encountered issues thus far. Love the on the go screen! I’m going to keep this one around, best one yet.

  19. Andrew says:

Hi Max, This is the first time I am changing and trying out one of the custom rom and it is failing. I tried this C-Rom and the Resurrection and they won’t work for me. It says installation aborted and also I think it’s giving me something like code 7. I have the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 I ended up using the old Synergy 4.1.0 that I downloaded from your site I think last year. What am I missing? Thanks, Andrew.

  20. evertking says:

Yes, this ROM is the best one out at the time. This with majestic kernel= CrAzY battery life. You can find the kernel in the s3 AT&T dev forum. I’m on Verizon but Samsung had a unified kernel. But really you have to try it your self to believe it.

  21. fred says:

Hi max. I was woundering if anyone else experienced ultra slow recharge times for the phones battery with this rom.? I have it on my i535 verizon s3. Great work too. Keep it up man.

  22. andrew says:

Hi Max, any idea why my C-ROM SGS3 won’t talk to my computer?

  23. fred says:

Hey max. So my ultra slow charging time turns out to be due to the phone just stopping the charging process all together after about 15 minutes on The charger. I tried the stock and then also lean kernal with same results. Any ideas man?

    • Max says:

Hmm not sure but I would check the amp output of your charger, make sure it’s rated at least 1A.

      • fred says:

Yeah the charger is all good. It was fine, and the charger I allways use, before I flashed the rom. Maybe needs a updated firmware? Im still on blk….

        • fred says:

Still no luck max. I updated my firmware and even tryed a different kernal. No change. Still a charge issue. This phone would charge on any charger before no problem… is a update coming soon maybe?..????

  24. TITO says:

Hi Max, thanks for your information
I have S3 SGH-I747M (Rogers, Canada), does this ROM 4.4.2 work with it?
If no, is there any Kitkat ROM for my device?

  25. Tal says:

Update 6.6 from OTA got my GT-19300 stuck on bootup any suggestions?

  26. Loz says:

Come on Max have you had a flawless experiance with this rom?? if but if not let us know what you found and any fixes because I have system ui crash theme crash dailer sounds like a robot v6.6 wont even load on my i9300.

Looking to go back to stock boaring but rock stable Samsung Odin on the ready.

  27. Chris says:

does this have free mobile hotspot?

  28. Andrew says:

Hi Max, Is the C-Rom self updating. My phone that I installed it to keeps saying updated C-Rom and Gapps available for download? Should I install it? Thanks again.

    • Nick Goblirsch says:

It keeps telling me the same thing.. but when i try to install it the installation gets aborted cause it says the “file doesn’t exist” or something. also, i was hoping that the update would fix the issue i’m having with the screen not wanting to turn on sometimes and the UI resetting to default background when it finally does unlock.. something weird is going on.. i had problems with ressurection remix rom too.. kept kicking me off my mobile network..

  29. victor says:

Everything installed fine just one question, on the lock screen it won’t let me add widgets just wondering if I have to enabled something or this ROM doesn’t support lock screen widgets

  30. Sachin says:

Is this ROM more stable as compared to the resurrection remix.. Resurrection remix is great except for sometimes my cell hangs or restarts on its own. So i just wanna know if this one’s a lil bit better ..
    Galaxy S3 GT-i9300 users
    Cheers !!

    • Nick Goblirsch says:

I’m having the same issue with this rom as i did with remix.. which is exactly what you describe. However resurrection remix was also kicking me off my data network.. this rom doesn’t do that at least. I can’t seem to find a stable kitkat rom to save my life.. except for CM11 which didn’t have all the cool features these others do..

  31. Win says:

Everything is fine but why mic volume so low? Any idea to fix it? And can we save the sound that record in Quick Record?

  32. farrukh says:

Can i download the kernel seprately for my galaxy s3 9300 int.pls suggest becouse in this rom my phones battery getting drain.

    • farrukh says:

Now the ROM is working perfect only the problem is whenever I charge the phone while the data pkg is active its drain the battery rather charging it any solution for it ?!

      • yR says:

Bro all u have to do is to purchase a new genuine charger
Charging have nothing to do with custom Rom

        • fred says:

There is a charge issue for sure. The rom does not have the right configuration for charging or something. Mine charged fine on the oem charger before I flashed this rom and now it will charge for 15 Minutes then just stop charging all together. Im on a verizon. S3. I fallowed all the flash protocols too. And this is not my first time flashing roms eaither. But all together is a real good rom. WE NEED A CHARGER UPDATE MAX!!!

  33. ShogunxShinobi says:

    Hi max,
Can you please tell me which kernel i have to flash on my gt i9300 with this rom to overclock my cpu above the standard 1.4ghz.
    Thanx in advance.

  34. SWABB says:

  35. fireheart4388 says:

i have got this but, i dont have any of the original samsung apps like playstore, and am missing most of the apps u have in the video, only have 1 page of apps and bottom row empty

  36. Alex says:

Hey, I flashed this onto my phone but I didn’t like it so I restored it. And after I restored it my PRL, MEID, IMEI, and pretty much everything I need for the phone to function on sprint, got deleted. What do I do?

  37. Tony says:

Hi Max, I know that you get a lot of messages from all over and I am just one of many, but I have a problem/question. I installed the C-Rom rom and it works great but I seem to have a lot of files folders that remained from apps that I no longer have on the phone, How do I “clean” the file system of all these old files/folders?

    Thanks, Tony

  38. Peter says:

I’ve installed the version linked in here… but it was kind a buggy for me on the i9300
After installing the rom I’ve updated it from the integrated update settings and now works smooth, my battery last 3 fucking days (and I use my phone a lot) !!! Really good! Thanks for sharing Max!

    official C-RoM 4.4.4 v7.1
🙂 best rom i ever had

  42. BL says:

I flashed the new update zip from C ROM ota and it crashed non stop. I had to flash the original zip again and I thought it would be working perfectly fine. But it turns out that it crashes occasionally when I pull the notification drawer or when I exit some apps. This has never happened to me when i used the previous C ROM. Help needed please.

    • Max says:

The latest C-ROM OTA update requires a factory reset, you probably did a dirty flash and that’s probably why. Make sure you readup on the version changes as sometimes they require clean install.

      • BL says:

Thanks I didn’t know that. I have never done clean flash for any of my previous update flashes and they did not cause me any problems. perhaps this latest one is an exceptional case.

    • Predrag says:

it happens to me too, even after:
      1. i have done clean install, with full reset/wipe
      2. after optimization with android tuner ….
      i got i9300

  43. Jasim says:

Problems I encountered after flashing this on S3 I9300

1)Bluethooth keeps shutting off and dosen’t work at all sometimes even when its on
    2)Glitchy google voice
    3) charging issues,-takes a hell damn long time

    other then that, awesome Rom!:)

  44. matt says:

WiFi & Bluetooth are not working for me in this Rom. Other than that it’s great. Anyone rise have that problem, or a fix?

  45. Joel says:

every time i try to install the rom it says installation aborted. How can i fix this?

  46. John says:

I have a question I rooted my gs3 and I installed CM 10.1 the latest on I love it. my only question is there a way to install all my apps to the now rooted gs3 with the custom rom without having to install everything one app at a time. any help would be appreciated thank you.
