For this week’s Sprint Galaxy S3 ROM of the Week, check out Wicked X ROM by XDA user Bilgerryan. I was actually itching to try out this ROM for weeks but hesitated as earlier versions required bootloader update.
Well, the latest version 8 doesn’t require bootloader update (as I believe it’s because KTweaker kernel is used) and have successfully installed on my Sprint S3 with a really old bootloader (I think my last update was ICS).
Anyways, Wicked X ROM is simply “wicked” if you ask me. Out of the bat, it comes with modded S5 launcher along with slew of themes (you can get up to like 19 themes if you flash TouchWiz theme zip file) including LG G3 theme, Xperia, Sense, and much much more. The modded S5 launcher is super fast, it’s so fast you won’t belive it’s TouchWiz. I actually use this launcher on most of my Galaxy phones including my Galaxy S4, S5, Note 2, and Note 3.
Wicked X ROM also comes with its own theme, you will find nice touches to its beautifully-themed quick toggles, drop-down animations, and much more. And yes, Sprint hotspot works out of the box so you can tether your Sprint 4G LTE all day long no problem.
Overclocking? Yes, KTweaker kernel comes with overclocking support up to near 2.3Ghz, you can use KTweaker app to overclock. I recommend staying around 1.89Ghz at most though, otherwise your phone may get super-hot and battery life may be not as good. But at 1.89Ghz, I found that battery life is still excellent with great boost in overall performance of the phone.
You will also find LG G3 keyboard on-board, which is an awesome keyboard (as I use my LG G3 as daily driver) that allows you to easily change the height of keyboard to your liking.
More features? Yes, Wicked X ROM also comes with Viper4Android, Xposed Modules, and a whole lot more but I will let you explore the rest of them. If you are looking for a stable, solid TouchWiz ROM with endless number of features that work flawless out of the box, this is definitely the ROM for you. So, don’t wait, flash it this week(end) and do let me know what you think!
NOTE: You need to update you CWM Recovery to v126.96.36.199 or higher OR also update your TWRP Recovery to v188.8.131.52 or higher. You can update your recovery by downloading CWM/TWRP then using Flashify app CLICK HERE.
UPDATE: My mistake, I did update my bootloader (I just forgot about it). YOU NEED TO UPDATE BOOTLOADER to ND8!!! To update your bootloader, simply download ND8 bootloader TAR file here and flash with ODIN. (Use PDA slot)
To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install TouchWiz Themes, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop or get force-closed keyboard error on boot, reboot into CWM recovery, go to Mounts & Storage->format /system. For TWRP, go to Wipe->Advanced Wipe->Wipe /system.)
